Addressing Early Childhood Literacy Challenges with Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico

Winter 2025

Too often, the most vulnerable children in New Mexico, those in rural, low-income, or underserved communities, are overlooked during the earliest and most critical stages of literacy development. These are the years when the foundation for future learning is built, yet so many children start school already behind, simply because they didn’t have access to the books, resources, or support they needed in their formative years. Without early intervention, the gap only widens.

Founder and CEO, Sylvia Maser, joined forces with former State Senator Bernadette Sánchez to meet with New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. Together, they are championing the urgent need for access to quality books statewide and ensuring that all children, especially those often overlooked, reach critical school readiness milestones.

GGAB is committed to disrupting the cycle of literacy inequality by putting high-quality, culturally diverse books directly into the hands of children who need them most.
