Wednesday, March 6, at a Global Give-A-Book event, the air was filled with laughter and excitement as families donning Dr. Seuss hats enjoyed a delicious meal. To celebrate Read Across America Day, GGAB hosted a fundraiser at Bubba’s 33, a restaurant in Albuquerque. Read Across America Day, originally dedicated to Dr. Seuss’ birthday, has now become a day to promote all kinds of different books and encourage kids to read. Bubba’s 33 donated 10% of food sales during the event to GGAB to get more new books to children in need.

A highlight of the night was a volunteer dressed as Cat in the Hat, who read several Dr. Seuss books during the event. The Duke City Gladiators, an indoor football team and one of GGAB’s sponsors, also surprised the audience by joining in to share their love of reading. The children attending the event were excited to listen to the stories and meet Cat in the Hat and the Gladiators!

Representatives from the Rio Grande Rotary Club, another proud sponsor, were also present to support GGAB. Throughout the event, GGAB’s section of the restaurant was completely full with sponsors, volunteers, and families enjoying pizza and celebrating the joy of reading. GGAB also distributed free books to the children who attended, giving away 55 books by the end of the event. The Read Across America fundraiser event was a resounding success, helping GGAB further promote our mission of youth literacy. GGAB thanks Bubba’s 33 and all sponsors for their support in making this event possible!
