GGAB at Child Care: Growing Supply

A child’s path toward success begins long before the first day of kindergarten. It begins with conversations at home, a parent reading aloud, a child turning the pages of a favorite book, and communities working together to make sure families have the resources they need.

Global Give-A-Book was proud to participate in Child Care: Growing Supply — Celebrating and Elevating Early Childhood, a gathering hosted by Growing Up New Mexico that brought together state leaders, early childhood advocates, providers, families, and community organizations.

For GGAB, the event represented something especially important: early literacy belongs in the larger conversation about early childhood development and school readiness.

Books Are Part of School Readiness

At the GGAB resource table, we shared new children’s books, literacy resources, and information about our work with families across New Mexico.

But our work is about more than handing a child a book.

When a young child has books in the home, those books create opportunities for parents and caregivers to read together, talk together, learn new words, ask questions, and build relationships. Those simple experiences can help establish the foundation children need when they eventually enter the classroom.

That is why GGAB continues to prioritize children birth through age five.

Our mission is clear: giving children a fighting chance through early childhood literacy and school readiness.

Strong Partnerships Create Stronger Communities

One of the most meaningful parts of the event was the opportunity to connect with leaders who are helping shape the future of early childhood in New Mexico.

We were grateful to be alongside Secretary Elizabeth Groginsky, Senator Cindy Nava, Senator Antonio “Moe” Maestas, Senator Jay C. Block, Representative Kathleen Cates, Representative Alan Martinez, Representative Patricia Roybal Caballero, Representative E. Diane Torres-Velásquez, Representative Yanira Gurrola, and many other community partners committed to New Mexico’s children and families.

These conversations matter.

GGAB has learned that the most effective way to reach children—particularly those living in rural and underserved communities—is not to work alone. We work through trusted organizations already serving families in their own communities.

That philosophy is helping guide the next chapter of our work.

Looking Ahead: A Statewide Early Literacy Network

GGAB is continuing to strengthen an early-literacy network that can reach families throughout New Mexico.

In Northern New Mexico, our Books, Diapers & Brighter Futures initiative is designed to integrate new books and early-literacy resources into family-support services through trusted community networks. The goal is simple but powerful: meet families where they already are and help young children gradually build their own home libraries.

The same philosophy guides our partnerships in Central, Western, Southern, and Eastern New Mexico.

When nonprofits, educators, government leaders, universities, businesses, volunteers, and community organizations bring their strengths together, we can create something much larger than any one organization could accomplish alone.

And ultimately, that is what Child Care: Growing Supply represented to us.

A stronger future for New Mexico’s children will be built together—one partnership, one family, and one book at a time.
