ONE Albuquerque Fund- Together, We Are Building a Community Around Children

A $10,000 investment from the ONE Albuquerque Fund helped Global Give-A-Book strengthen a network of people and organizations working together for Albuquerque’s children.

When Global Give-A-Book received a $10,000 investment from the ONE Albuquerque Fund in 2025, we saw it as more than funding for books. We saw it as an investment in a community.

At GGAB, our work begins with a book—but it does not end there.

Our goal is to reach children where they are, particularly children who may face barriers to having books of their own. That means working through Title I schools, the APS McKinney-Vento Homeless Program, food pantries, shelters, community events, and the Bookmobile to bring literacy directly to children and families through organizations they already know and trust.

It Takes a Community to Put a Book in a Child’s Hands

Before a GGAB book reaches a child, many hands help make that moment possible.

Through Peter’s Paycheck, adults with disabilities help prepare and package books with care. UNM Reading Tutors and interns help encourage literacy and inspire children to discover the joy of reading. Volunteers, educators, food pantry partners, and community organizations help us identify and reach families who might otherwise have limited access to new books.

The ONE Albuquerque Fund’s investment helped support and strengthen this collaborative network.

And that is what makes this partnership so meaningful.

We are not creating a separate system and asking families to find us. We go where children and families already are.

When a family visits a food pantry, a child can encounter a book. When the APS McKinney-Vento Bookmobile reaches a neighborhood, shelter, school, or community location, books can go with it. At community events, children have the opportunity to choose a book that interests them and take it home as their own.

A Book Goes Home With the Child

For GGAB, book ownership matters.

The books we provide are new, high-quality, culturally diverse titles selected to encourage curiosity, early literacy, and school readiness. Once a child chooses or receives a GGAB book, that book belongs to them.

It goes home.

It can be read at bedtime, shared with a sibling or parent, opened again tomorrow, and become part of that child’s own growing library.

That is why we often say that we sponsor children, not books.

The book is the tool. The child is the investment.

Building the Next Chapter Together

The ONE Albuquerque Fund’s 2025 investment helped GGAB expand access to books while strengthening the partnerships that make our work possible.

Peter’s Paycheck. UNM Reading Tutors and interns. APS Title I McKinney-Vento. Food pantry partners. Volunteers. Community organizations. Families.

Each plays a different role, but we are working toward the same goal: giving Albuquerque’s children a stronger start through early childhood literacy and school readiness.

As GGAB continues to grow, this collaborative model will remain at the center of our work.

Together, the ONE Albuquerque Fund and GGAB are building a community around children.

And when a community comes together around a child, we are not simply placing a book in their hands.

We are helping place a brighter future within their reach.
