Updated: Oct 1

Summer 2024

Global Give-A-Book was awarded the PNM Non-Traditional Pathways to Education Grant, supporting our mission to promote youth literacy. This grant allows GGAB to host impactful read-a-thons, directly reaching children with the resources they need to thrive!

On September 6th GGAB held a read-a-thon at the Heights Community Center, with the help of the PNM non traditional pathways to education grant. During the read-a-thon each child received two books, Pipsie Nature Detective and Coyote’s Wild Home. Each book is about nature the first is about Pipsie and her quest to solve the Disappearing Caterpillar case. The second is about a coyote pup and his aunt searching for food while a grandfather and his granddaughter go camping. Both books teach kids to love and respect nature.

The children enjoyed reading both books, they especially enjoyed howling along to Coyote’s Wild Home. After reading the kids completed a short book report on one of the books, with the help of volunteers and community center staff. In their book reports they identify the author and the illustrator of the book, then they write something short about how they liked the book.

Read-a-thons are so much fun! We read, eat snacks, and talk about our favorite parts of the book. Afterwards each kid gets to take their books home to read again as many times as they like. This program helps foster a love of reading in all who attend and I am happy to have been there.

We extend our deepest gratitude to PNM and their commitment to creating brighter futures and fueling a stronger New Mexico through literacy. Thank you, PNM!
