Becoming a Lavender Libros Reader

Updated: Mar 21

Growing global leaders, one book at a time!

The City of Albuquerque started Lavender Libros in March of 2020. GGAB was entrusted with this literacy program in January of 2022.

What to Know

Lavender Libros (LL) is a literacy program that invites community leaders to read award-winning books aloud on video, encouraging children to listen and read along. These videos are featured on the GGAB YouTube, where children can access them on the go or from home.

Lavender Libros Readers are the foundation on which this program thrives. We want to make the process as simple and enjoyable as possible. Please watch this how-to video prepared by our Director of Multi-Media, Jordan Oliver.

Choosing a Location

We encourage our Lavender Libros Readers to select a location for filming that is fun, unique, and inspiring for young children.

For example, Carl Brady, from New Mexico, read a children's book from the Gulf of Mexico. After reading, he jumped into the ocean. Here is the video!

Lavender Libros Literacy Events

GGAB hosts two Lavender Libros community outreach events annually, inviting numerous community leaders to read to the children in attendance. Learn more about these events, Lavender Libros in the Village and Lavender Libros in the Sky, at the link below.
