Working alongside Barnes and Noble, GGAB has collaborated in order to create a gift card scholarship given to the 9-12 grade student who submitted the best essay on the topic of th significance of pre-literacy in a world of electronics and technology.
Brooklyn Trimble was awarded the scholarship as a result of her excellent essay submission, which went in-depth about the importance of pre-literacy in the electronic age, as she emphasizes how important pre-literacy is for child development and her passion for promoting youth literacy. This essay truly illustrates just how significant literacy is, especially in today’s age, as Brooklyn conveys several points as to why it is imperative that pre-literacy continues to be prioritized and how it is a more beneficial alternative to using technology.
During this event, Brooklyn read her essay to the audience and explained the process behind writing her paper. She was awarded the $300 gift card to Barnes and Noble and was accompanied by her father and grandmother. The GGAB team also had the opportunity to introduce themselves and read out a letter of appreciation and congratulations to the winner. This year was the first year that this scholarship has been offered, and so far it has been off to an excellent start. This event was truly inspiring, as it hopefully encourages more students to think critically about the importance of literacy, utilize their writing skills, and get introduced to GGAB’s organization and what our mission is for the community.
Overall, thanks to our partnership with Barnes and Noble, and the help of the community, we are able to offer this wonderful scholarship opportunity- with more to come!
