Meet Sylvia Maser, the driving force behind Global Give-A-Book, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting children's literacy. Sylvia's personal journey is inspiring; she was challenged with learning English as a child of immigrant parents but discovered a profound love for reading during her college years. Her experiences as a single mother of five children ignited a deep passion for literacy, solidifying her belief that all children deserve access to high-quality literature.
Before fully embracing her literary passion, Sylvia spent two decades in the marketing world, even organizing city-wide events for the City of Albuquerque. However, her commitment to literacy has always remained close to her heart. Since 2005, she has been tirelessly gifting books to children. Then, in September 2020, she took the plunge and established Global Give-A-Book as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This organization, led by women, has already distributed over 20,000 children's books and aims to provide thousands more. They've partnered with more than 20 organizations focused on aiding children and low-income families.
In 2022, Global Give-A-Book achieved recognition, winning the Hispanic Heritage Award for Nonprofit of the Year. Sylvia is also a co-author of 'The Giving Stories,' a book where compassionate nonprofit leaders like herself share their tales of dedication. She graduated from CAU, is a Board Member of the Foothills Community Policing Council, and is a Hispano Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Secretary elect.
When not changing lives through literacy, Sylvia treasures moments with her grandchildren and cherishes family reunions. Her love for adventure takes her to vibrant cities like New York, San Francisco, and Miami, and she enjoys relaxing vacations at Niagara Falls or exploring the beauty of Catalina Island.
