Fall in Love with Reading: GGAB Brings Literacy to the Marketplace

Updated: Oct 1

Fall 2024

Global Give-A-Book continues to spread the joy of reading through community engagement events like Fall At The Poulin Marketplace. During the fourth annual gathering, GGAB advisor Donna Hollingsworth and our GGAB team, UNM Reading Tutors Eli and Marisol, enthusiastically gifted free #GGABooks to children, fostering a love for literacy.

On September 21st I attended the fourth annual Fall At The Marketplace with GGAB! Marisol, Another UNM reading tutor, and I handed out free packaged books and stickers to children at the event. Across from us, there were multiple tents with children’s activities inside, one of which was set up like a tiny playroom with toys and games. I saw some of the kids take the book they got from us over to the ‘playroom’ to read it. It was adorable and awesome to see them so eager to read!

One of the most popular books we passed out was Pipsie Nature Detective. It is a charming book with colorful illustrations and a fun story that anyone can enjoy. In addition to the books, we gave out GGAB balloon pins with a donation of any size. The pin is cute, yellow,  and fit for any hot air balloon-loving New Mexican.

The whole event was awesome, there were lots of vendors selling everything from bread to earrings. Local artisans had booths set up that were completely filled with handmade products. I ended up buying myself a hat that I am very excited to wear. I also ate one of the best cookies I have ever had in my life at this event. I loved attending with GGAB and I recommend attending this event when it comes around again next year.
