Winter 2025

GGAB was formally introduced to the Del Sol Rotary Club during a vibrant event focused on youth literacy and community collaboration. Through their generous contributions, including two grants, GGAB has been able to expand its reach, distributing more books to underserved children throughout the state. This partnership exemplifies how collaborative efforts can significantly impact early literacy and school readiness.

On February 13th I attended a Rotary Club meeting alongside executive directory Sylvia Maser and Board President Donna Hollingsworth on behalf of GGAB. The meeting was held at Jimmy’s Cafe for breakfast. I got pancakes, which are a superior breakfast food. The Del Sol Rotary Club is full of very kind and happy people, the whole morning was filled with dad jokes and smiles. They were all very nice to me, even after I mispronounced my OWN name, which was briefly embarrassing before it became a recurring comedic bit. It was casual, and I had a lot of fun talking to the members about a myriad of topics, including GGAB.
During the meeting, we gave a presentation on multiple aspects of what Global-Give-A-Book does, including Read-A-Thons and community partnerships with food banks and other non-profits like Peters Paycheck. I got to talk a little about what I do as a UNM reading tutor. It was fun to share my experiences with GGAB events, and it allowed me to look back on all I've done so far.
Since starting at GGAB, I have had the unique experience of not just hearing about the work they do but actually getting to be a part of it. I get to see the way these books actually impact the lives of children in real time. On more than one occasion, even the kids who are hesitant about reading or don’t want to do it because it feels like homework actually end up truly engaging and enjoying their books! It’s amazing how impactful these free books are; it's like Christmas every time. I love the work I do, and I'm excited to keep doing it!
