Spring 2025
On April 26th, GGAB joined the annual Spring at the Marketplace event at Poulin Marketplace for a day filled with books and community connections. UNM reading tutors Eli and Cecillia spent the day sharing our mission, handing out children's books, and watching kids light up as they picked their very own stories to take home.
From heartfelt book moments to smiles and sunshine, this event reminded us why we love doing what we do!

On April 26th the Poulin Marketplace held their annual Spring at the Marketplace event. I attended alongside Cecillia, another UNM reading tutor. The both of us spent the day handing out some awesome children's books, talking to people, and eating good food.
The Poulin Marketplace events are some of my favorite events to participate in, this one was especially fun because the weather was nice and cool. During the event we got to take a look around at all the other vendors, there was pottery, jewelry, and lots of good food. For lunch I had a proper New Mexican frito pie, which was awesome. I also bought two sweet rolls on my way out. I shared them with my brother and they made an amazing afternoon snack.
For the majority of the event we handed out books, took donations, and talked about the GGAB mission. My favorite part is always handing out the books. Some of the titles we handed out were Keeping The City Going, The Friendship Surprise, and My Little Sweet Boy. I love going to these events and handing out books, I always find it so sweet that the kids are so excited to pick one out. Some kids are very careful; they look over each book, read the description on the back, and finally choose which of the titles to take home. Other kids come up to our table, grab a book, and that's that. But either way they can't wait to tear into the packaging and get to reading. I hope everyone there had as much fun as I did and I'm excited for the next marketplace event!
A child's fighting chance starts with a book!
Every book we give is a step toward a more self-sufficient child.
