Literacy and Inclusion: A Powerful Alliance for Progress

Updated: 6 days ago

Ongoing Partnership Est. 2021

At GGAB, we believe that literacy provides the children in our communities the tools they need to succeed in the classroom and the workplace.

Peter's Paycheck is a nationally recognized business for integrated employment of adults with Special Needs. Each #GGABbook is carefully packed and prepared by these dedicated individuals for distribution within all GGAB literacy programs.

It takes a team, and we are privileged to have Peter's Paycheck on ours!

Here’s a glimpse into a day of preparing for a our Read-A-Thon series with Peter's Paycheck. UNM reading tutor Marisol shares her experience from that day below.

My experience volunteering at Peter’s Paycheck, a local non-profit created to assist and provide employment to adults with disabilities was great, and consisted of meeting the team members along with preparing and packaging books. These books will be handed out to children throughout various community centers for Global Give a Book’s weekly Read-A-Thons. The staff took extra care and patience to help me in correctly packaging and labeling each individual book, accurately counting and assembling boxes, and overall learning the values encompassed at Peter’s Paycheck.

Additionally, working alongside Ms. Kerry, the non-profits founder, was an excellent experience, as she introduced me to all the staff present that day, encouraging meaningful connections. After my time volunteering, we had managed to package, assemble, and label a plethora of books for children, which was very fulfilling, and made me feel hopeful for the future of spreading literacy to future generations within New Mexico. Overall, being able to volunteer for such an incredible organization has given me new insight on the magical and ever-growing world of learning how to read.

United, we can bridge the divide in book access.

Your investment directly supports our mission to provide quality books to children who need them the most and empower children with the tools for success.
